I just finished teaching the last three months in a Grade 2/3 classroom and it has been so busy but wonderfully fantastic! There were so many rich experiences in that school that were new to me. I had an amazing and supportive staff to help me and I learned so much about guided reading groups.
So much has happened!
I got to watch my students create Ukranian pysanky eggs as part of their Social studies unit!
We learned about Tunisa. I brought in dates and couscous as part of a taste test. The kids hated the dates but LOVED the couscous! I also set up a website, stuck QR codes around the room, and let the kids go find them in a scavenger hunt kind of way!
I got to be there at the end of the school year and got to see how everything wrapped up at the end. With my other practicums, it's always in the middle of the year, so I never get to see the END of it all!
I also learned how difficult it was to juggle two different Math curriculums. It takes a lot of skill to be able to juggle it, teaching half of the class and having more independent work for the other group.
I learned that for some kids, there is a maturity difference between 2nd and 3rd grade, and I had to remember to differentiate for these things.
The kids are ready to be DONE school by June. All testing and any other BIG assignments need to be finished my May. It was amazing to see that shift!!
So, I've had such a rich year, but I am ready for a bit of summer break! See you next year!
